Independence Day at Coast to Coast

Last night I was lucky enough to be invited along to Coast to Coast restaurant in Brighton to try their special Independence Day menu. I love American food so was very excited to go along and get stuck in to a juicy burger and it most certainly didn’t disappoint!

I took my friend Sarah along with me and from the moment we arrived the Coast to Coast team looked after us. We were offered a cocktail to start and we both decided to go for the Strawberry Daiquiri. A clear winner. It was delicious and didn’t last long. Not that this was a problem as my next cocktail ‘Berry Berry’ was in front of me before I even took the last sip of my daiquiri. This was the kind of service I could get used to.

Whilst we were enjoying our drinks Andy Pearson from Intoxicology gave us a short talk on how he designed the drinks menu and created all the cocktails for the Coast to Coast restaurants.  It was really interesting to hear how much thought and effort goes in to the drinks they serve and I started to appreciate exactly what it was I was drinking.

Andy showed us how to make the special Independence Day Cocktail ‘American Pie’ he also showed us how to make, in my opinion, the best cocktail of all. The Mojito. It was then our turn to get behind the bar and I have a go at mixing it up. I was up for the Mojito and I have to say my attempt was pretty bloody good.  However, I was a bit useless at crushing the sugar and lime together, so I don’t think I’ll be getting a job behind a bar anytime soon!

After we tried our hand at cocktail making, we then got told all about how the special Independence Day burger was born by the head chef. Even though it’s an American restaurant Coast to Coast don’t just steal the yanks recipes and bring them to the UK. Oh no. A lot of thought goes in to exactly how that recipe can be adapted for UK customers who aren’t quite as out there as the Americans!  Although there was talk of a peanut butter burger in the pipeline, which I’m not sure how I feel about.

After hearing all about how and why they created the menu we finally got a chance to taste it. The best bit of the evening. Not only did we get treated to the new burger and chips but we also got to try four of their sides. Yes four! The table was pretty much covered in food and I felt like I was on an episode of Man Vs Food. The burger was amazing and probably up there with one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten. The beef burger was topped with meatballs, steaky bacon and all the regularly burger goodness which just melted in my mouth.  After doing a pretty good job at demolishing the contents of the table Sarah and I had hit our peak and needed to be rolled out the door home.  Food definitely won.

It was a great event and a massive thank you to all the team for having us.  I would definitely recommend checking out Coast to Coast this weekend to try their Independence Day burger,  or just head down sometime soon for one of their unreal cocktails! Trust me, it will be worth it.

Happy Independence Day!
