La Choza - Brighton

I have a confession to make. I’m obsessed with the Mexican street food served at La Choza in Gloucester Road in Brighton. I've visited La Choza a couple of times now and although I haven't blogged about food before, I am a BIG foodie and thought I would share this gem of a place with you in case you live in Brighton, or if you’re planning on visiting anytime soon. If you don't live near Brighton then La Choza also serve food at The Candlemaker pub in Battersea, so if that's local to you go and check it out. Like many other Mexican restaurants, La Choza is a great place to eat if you are gluten intolerant, like me, as the majority of their menu is suitable for people following a gluten free diet. Just make sure you ask your server what is and isn't suitable. The restaurant itself is quite small, so I would recommend making a reservation in advance to secure yourself a table.

So what to eat? Well the menu is quite straightforward and basically works like this:
  • Choose your base - Corn tacos, Burrito, Quesadilla, Tostadas or a Burrito bowl
  • Then your filling - Slow cooked beef, shredded chicken, Mexican chorizo, pulled pork, battered catch of the day, prawns with chilli, garlic and lime, or roasted spicy squash and sweet potato
  • And finally your salsa - mild, medium, hot or XXXtra hot

Because we visited on a Sunday they were also offering some all-day breakfast specials, which looked delicious, and they have different daily specials throughout the week. You can view the full menu here. To start with we shared some homemade chorizo nachos and they were literally the best nachos ever and so filling. Then for main I had the soft corn tacos filled with chilli, garlic and lime prawns and my boyfriend had a pulled pork burrito. Both tasted amazing!

If you fancy a bit of gluten free cake to take home for desert, then I recommend you head down the road to the Cloud 9 bakery where they offer a range of gluten free options such as chocolate brownies, vanilla cupcakes and a heavenly cheesecake slice. I went for the cheesecake slice and it was probably the best gluten free cake I've ever eaten and on par with the Babycakes bakery in America if you've ever been there.

If you visit La Choza, or the Cloud 9 bakery, then let me know what you think!
